Chic, simple yet dramatic at Lanvin

Paris: For Spring/Summer 2015, Alber Elbaz looked to the work of ‘Jeanne Lanvin, from her graceful, simple gowns to her lavish embroideries,’ and sent out a collection of real clothes for real women and ‘real’ models – “Amber, Violetta, Natasha, Malgosia,” Elbaz said, “It’s about beautiful women.” The opening, simple, fluid gowns save for a row of metal buttons, a demurely revealing split at the thigh or nipped at the waist with the chicest of snakeskin belts. Short dresses and neat tailored looks all bore some chic discretionary detail – from fine chains to simple, sleekly cut jackets with tailored basting and raw edges, the attention to detail was superb. Prints were inspired by screens from Armand-Albert Rateau in Jeanne Lanvin’s quarters, a stag leaping over flora rendered onto floaty dresses – elegance personified. – Lizzy Bowring
