Chic Cycling – Tour de Fashion hits NYC

To kick off NYFW, the Active Team stopped by the launch of the first ever Tour de Fashion in New York City’s legendary Fashion District. The unique program was created to celebrate fashion’s renewed love affair with cycling. Recently, NYC has seen the cycling scene explode, following in the footsteps/pedals of European commuter cites like London and Paris. With over 200 miles of bike lanes added over the last three years, and the emergence of sophisticated bike shops like Adeline Adeline in Tribeca, NYer’s have truly cemented their spot on the list of chic, bike-friendly cities.

Created by the Fashion Center Business Improvement District, 30 designers were commissioned to create one-of-a-kind bicycles that fashion week attendees can borrow to get from show to show. At the conclusion of  Fashion Week, all the bikes will be auctioned through charitybuzz, with proceeds going to support CFDA’s {Fashion Incubator} program, which helps designers launch their lines.

The bicycles were built in New York City by Bowery Lane Bicycles, and the list of designers involved is really incredible. From Betsey Johnson to Thom Browne, Diane von Furstenberg, Isaac Mizrahi and Rebecca Minkoff, each bike speaks volumes about the personal style of each designer. And, in true creative fashion, tons of sewing related items and accessories adorned the bikes including, buttons, zippers, measuring tape and even a custom python print from Mr. Elie Tahari.
