Hats hats hats…we’re definitely having a hat moment this fall and I’m a sucker for most of them. Berets, newsboys, knit noggin toppers – a woman with a great hat is usually the first person I’ll notice in a crowded room, the type of woman I will cross the street to photograph. Not only do hats scream sexy and stylish to me but the extra dose of confidence and attitude required to rock one is always appealing too.
While I’m seeing a few hats for Fall ’07 that I do not like (Marc Jacobs knit and felt wide-brimmed concoctions looked fine on the runway, but perhaps not in real life), the ones which I like tend to fall into the somewhat androgynous category – stingy-brimmed fedoras, trilbys, bowlers, even the occasional tophat with a small crown – they all keep me up late at night pondering their magnificence. The effect achieved by combining a feminine and fashion-forward outfit with a casual, I-borrowed-this-from-my-cool-boyfriend fedora or trilby is particularly appealing. This look owes a huge debt to the hat-hoarding holy trinity of Pete Doherty, Kate Moss, and Irina Lazareanu – international style influencers and mate-swappers one and all.
I found the hats above while having a look around at recent photos on Stylesight. If you want to cop this look for yourself, you might have a look around Arnold Hatters (535 8th Avenue), Still Life (77 Orchard Street), or baileyhats.com.
