Antibes: Karl Lagerfeld booked out the ultra-luxurious Hotel du Cap on the French Riviera for his current Resort collection, just a few hours down the coast from last year’s location, Saint-Tropez. The swanky location (the legendary hotel was the center of literary expatriate life in the 1920s; Hemingway, F. Scott Fitzgerald and his glamorous wife Zelda were regular guests of Gerald and Sarah Murphy) seemed to inform the opulent looks, some embellished with real jewels, diamonds and pearls. The looks ran the gamut from tailored striped suits to color-blocked swimwear to flapper-esque sack dresses. Though each look was expertly crafted and appealing on its own, the collection as a whole felt somewhat disjointed and in need of some editing. That said, Chanel’s clients will surely fall for the lemon yellow tweeds, silky shorts and elegant midi dresses. –Joanna Manganaro
