THE SHAPE OF THINGS
New York: Fashion people aren’t typically known to be math aficionados, but Ralph Rucci has always been the cerebral type. For his first Pre-Fall offering, he used concave and convex shapes when creating his elegant garments. Visible seams highlighted the curving angles and added visual interest. The tasteful assortment featured A-line coats with bell sleeves, perfectly cut straight-leg trousers, angular jackets, and classic shifts. A pair of dresses made from double-knit wool jersey was a highlight, and each coat was more beautiful than the last. In an interview, Rucci let out a spoiler for his upcoming F/W 13 collection, stating that the tones of the current offering were a “shadow” of the vibrant hues he will release in February. Though his followers are surely swooning over his Pre-Fall looks, they will be impatiently waiting to see what Rucci can do with brights.–Joanna Manganaro
