The first incarnation of the CFDA Fashion Incubator kicked off this week with an open house event to introduce the twelve distinguished designers chosen for the prestigious program. A collaboration between the Bloomberg administration and the Council of Fashion Designers of America, the Fashion Incubator fosters emerging talent by providing them with professional support and discounted studio space in the heart of the Garment District. The designers can utilize the space however they wish, whether it be a sales showroom and/or an actual manufacturing center. The twelve designers cover a diverse range of markets and are at various stages in their careers, from rising star (and recently First Lady-approved ) Prabal Gurung to longtime indie favorite Grey Ant.
Many of the designers, including Prabal Gurung and Alice Ritter, previously operated out of their small New York apartments, which highlights how important the new initiative is in preserving creative talent in New York City. View collections from these labels, along with Tom Scott, Subversive Jewelry, House of Waris, Bibhu Mohapatra, Jolibe, Gemma Redux, Sang A, Public School and Ruby Kobo at 209 West 38th Street, 3rd Floor, and stay tuned for detailed shots from the collections in Stylesight’s Image Library.
