SPA DAY LUXURY
Paris: Phoebe Philo often has a loose hand with proportion, favoring relaxed fits and oversized volume, a preference which translated into her version of council estate track suits last year. For Spring Philo relaxed even more, treating her fans with a trip to the spa, complete with fuzzy slippers, trompe l’oeil pumps in the shape of feet and fluid satin robes and trousers. Ragged hems and twisted mesh details had an unfinished feeling, especially for a designer who usually cuts with such precision. It was this unraveling that made the presentation interesting, and some unrestrained pieces, such as creamy camisole dresses with mesh undershirts, carried a boudoir reference. Whether Philo was leading us into the spa or the bedroom, her latest collection for Céline offered a witty peek behind the curtain of the feminine experience. —Nina Stotler
