Celine Cruise/Resort 2013

SIGNATURES REVISITED

New York: Phoebe Philo stuck to her tried-and-true formula for Cruise/Resort 13. Her signature clean, boxy silhouettes, sumptuous leathers and compelling colors were all present in the sophisticated collection, and all continued to look contemporary and desirable. The crisp, creased pants she has shown in the past – a flattering favorite of her clients – returned, and the scarf prints that appeared in her S/S 11 collection (and which Kanye West famously sported on stage) were revisited, this time in brilliant orange and chic navy. Other familiar elements included piecing and color blocking. Soft gathering at the necks of featherweight silk blouses provided a nice counterbalance to the boxier pieces, and a playful polka dot print added a touch of whimsy. Having just had her third child in March, Philo may not have had the energy for any sort of monumental reinvention in the clothing this time around, though these signature styles looked just as good as when she first presented them. Philo did, however, introduce two new bag styles, the All Soft and the Edge, which are sure to appear on the arms of the world’s chicest women as soon as they are released. –Joanna Manganaro
