Are you into a) wellness b) cake and c) cosy, homey hangouts? WGSN City By City Editorial Assistant Maria Mao has found your new favourite place
So, you’re in Hong Kong and you’ve got a craving for really scrummy, healthy food followed by a huge wedge of cake? Fear not, one place can deliver all of that – and make you feel like you’ve found a home from home…
City: Hong Kong
Where: Cedele, Shop C, G/F, Fashion Walk, Great George Street / 852 2110 0490
What: Eat & Drink
Three reasons we love it…
The setting. The Fashion Walk Food Street in the busy shopping district of Causeway Bay has recently undergone a major facelift, with more cosy niche eateries sprouting up all over the place. Nestled behind a few outdoor seats in the shade is cafe Cedele. Its canteen-style layout, wood-clad walls and white marble tables make for a warm, homey ambience.
The food. Cedele has become a popular destination for yummy – but nutritious – food, with four branches in Hong Kong. However, unlike its Singaporean home branch which has a broad raw, vegan and gluten-free offering, the HK cafe isn’t so niche. Offering “good food for a good life”, superfoods such as chia seeds, sweet potatoes, beetroots, avocados and black beans feature heavily in its all-day brunch and á la carte menu. That’s not to say there aren’t treats – Cedele’s artisan cakes, scones, and desserts are becoming legendary. In fact, it’s basically criminal to leave without trying the walnut carrot cake.
The trend: Eating organic isn’t new to Hong Kong. However, Cedele’s nicely curated menu, casual atmosphere and reasonable price point makes this Western-style cafe a perfect hangout.
