2010 marks the 50th anniversary of Carnaby Street in London, with a year full of events and celebrations. Since the Swinging ‘60s, this iconic street has been synonymous with cutting edge fashion, music and youth culture. The first event is an innovative exhibition and limited-edition book called Carnaby Street: 1960 – 2010. Located 38 Carnaby Street, the exhibition is open until April 11th, and puts into context the history of the famous setting, from its earliest origins in the 16th Century to the present day with a focus on the 1960s and Mod culture. The central feature of the show is a unique 3D timeline which illustrates key people, events and happenings in the area, including iconic characters associated with music heritage such as The Rolling Stones, Sex Pistols and Jimi Hendrix. The limited-edition book features images from ‘60s photographer Philip Townsend.
