Calvin Klein Collection

Milan: Calvin Klein Collection has always been ground zero for American sportswear — even if the label has occasionally strayed from that designation. For S/S 13, menswear designer Italo Zucchelli returned squarely to his brand’s identity with relaxed denim, simple cotton T-shirts, tapered khakis and voluminous bomber jackets: classics with a no-fuss, masculine attitude. But after a restrained and minimalist opening that including lean tonal suiting, Zucchelli delved into more fashion-forward territory with nylon t-shirts and shorts printed with a graphic burnout floral, as well as aggressively molded leather biker jackets straight out of the 50s. Evening options were less successful, including satin pants too shiny to be taken seriously off the runway — a look out of step with Zucchelli’s otherwise pleasingly no-nonsense muse. — Nina Stotler
