The movie studios and stars (except the kind you see above) drifted from Hollywood Boulevard long ago leaving behind a bustling tourist destination. For inspiration you’ll want to look beyond this famous boulevard where the creativity at concept stores and boutiques nearby is bursting from store fronts.
Space 15 Twenty:
Urban Outfitters’ Space 15 Twenty is a local favorite for not just shopping but for exhibitions, lectures and events. In addition to their weekly yard sale, since last Wednesday they’ve already held a lecture with Guerrilla Gardeners, a TOMS Give Shop & Gallery opening event and a CHRISHABANA Trunk Show. Keep up with their events via their website.

Free City Supershop Supermät:
Nina Garduno’s design for her Free City Supershop Supermät won the 2011 Travel + Leisure Award for Best Retail Space and it’s not hard to see why. The colorful streetwear is creatively displayed throughout the store using everything from ladders, neon bikes, head dresses, penny curtains, graphic artwork, sculptures and much more.
The apparel isn’t the only thing made locally here, pick up a fresh loaf of bread made form a bakery down the street or an organic honey -vanilla ice cream to cool you off.
Along with some other proud store owners on this block, Emilie Odeile (owner and designer of Art String) is set on making this Hollywood nook a go-to destination for fashion savy shoppers. Lucky for you the store doubles as her studio so, if the colorful spools of yarn stocked floor-to-ceiling inspire you have a quick pow-wow with Emilie and she will happily whip up a striking wardrobe addition.
