London: Musician Tom Odell, backed by several singers and an upright bass, set the mood for Burberry Prorsum’s emotional fall collection. Christopher Bailey literally put his heart on his sleeves, sending out button-up shirts, dresses, and even a haircalf trench coat emblazoned with a charming heart print. A heart-shaped piece of silver hardware decorated the neckline of a halter dress worn by top model Karlie Kloss. Other motifs included giraffe and leopard, providing an exotic element. As to be expected, coats played a key role in the offering. In addition to traditional twill, this season’s trench coats also came in PVC, glossy pelts, and lacquered leather. Bailey also used PVC for sexy pencil skirts, shells, sheaths, its subtle translucence bringing a seductive edge to the romantic theme. The designer let the patterns and materials take center stage, keeping the designs clean and simple. It was a smart move, as his pencil skirts, T-shirts, sweaters, and trenches were among the most appealing versions seen during the fall season thus far. –Joanna Manganaro
