London: Borrowing the colorful metallics from his recent menswear collection, Christopher Bailey reinvented the Burberry trench for Spring with high shine satin basque in jewel and citrus shades, setting the tone for this glimmering and brash presentation. Other key elements included capelets in both miniature and elongated cuts as well as exaggerated oval dolman sleeves. The foil-finish shirting from Bailey’s S/S 13 menswear also popped up, though somehow mirrored lavender button-downs and tunic dresses were less flattering when translated to women. But this being Burberry it was the outerwear that truly counted and creative twists were everywhere, from a cropped bomber capelet to balloon-sleeve baseball jackets. In fact, Bailey often dispensed with separates entirely, showing many coats over corset bathing suits for a concisely body-conscious statement.—Nina Stotler
