London: Burberry Prorsum’s honed Pre-Fall collection concentrated on the label’s hits; tailored outerwear and a return to a lean, flared silhouette; a sharp look warmed up by cozy fall materials. Slim pencil skirts, skinny trousers and body-hugging knits were softened with a chocolate palette and soft velvet, nubby tweed and touches of fur. Unexpectedly heeled chukka boots were lined in a cushion of lambswool, grounding more feminine pieces like padded, blush-tone peplum jackets and cap sleeve floral dresses. While the muted palette worked everywhere else, a clutch of floor-length gowns did not benefit from muddy rose and washed-out mustard, which blurred their stately column outline. Consistently waist-conscious, innocent bow belts cinched nearly every ensemble, while oversize weekend bags suggested Burberry’s travel-ready heritage. —Nina Stotler
