Setting the scene, Burberry collaborated with United Visual Artists to provide the ‘rainbow ‘of laser lights under which, a collection, spanning the 17 years that Bailey has been at the creative helm, tapped into archival pieces from British street culture of the 60s, 70s and 80s.

There was a distinct streetwear vibe about this presentation-  rainbow checks, in support of LGBTQ+ youth, were cut in oversized jackets, coats and capes.

Some of Bailey’s iconic pieces such as shearling aviator jackets , military coats  and cocktail dresses were included in the irreverent mix along with long white skirts topped with Rave’n hoodies and colourful oversized parkas while a ‘Rainbow’ cape closed the show.

The lyrics of Smalltown Boy might have been a poignant message but as Bailey said, “it’s is about the future  and how exciting and positive it is”. – Lizzy Bowring
