The good folks over at Tenue de Nimes have resurfaced an archival CK Calvin Klein Jeans advertising campaign that will no doubt tug at the heartstrings of thirtysomething females everywhere. Both groundbreaking and inspirational in its approach, this is a must-see for denim and vintage enthusiasts alike.
Brook Shields’ Calvin Klein In the 1980s, Calvin Klein premiered the legendary Brooke Shields’ advertising campaign for the newly launched CK Calvin Klein Jeans label. The groundbreaking imagery and irresistible sexual appeal not only burned the company name and image into the world’s consciousness, but also revolutionized the jeanswear industry. The campaign was shot and directed by photographer Richard Avedon and featured new face Brooke Shields at just the tender age of 15. Readers who are familiar with the ad will remember the infamous line, “You wanna know what comes between me and my Calvins? Nothing.” In an interview with the New York Post Brooke recalled: “I look at these pictures now and I still am sort of shocked that they became so legendary. For me, it was just a huge job I went to after school at 3 o’clock. The one with my leg up, I just remember my arm hurting. You can’t plan on being iconic. The controversy [over declaring, ‘You wanna know what comes between me and my Calvins? Nothing.’] didn’t surprise me because I’d had experience with it since I was 11. The pants came above my belly button — even the one with my shirt open, you didn’t see anything. Compared to the things I’d done before, this was like being in winter gear.” Brooke went on to face future print campaigns and commercial advertisements for CK that you can check out here.
