What a week for denim in Berlin: we spent last week visiting the many trade shows, runways and surrounding events in the German capital and have been soaking up the gossip, trends and denim highlights from the city.
The biggest news from Bread and Butter was the introduction of the Temple of Denim in the denim base area. This section was added just 4 weeks ago after denim giants Levi’s pulled out of the show, therefore the new section was housed in the prime location of Levi’s regular space. The temple was an airy building with high ceilings and plenty of natural light and showcased a great selection of denim brands from the small and artisanal (Japan’s 45RPM and New York’s 3Sixteen) to bigger U.S names (3×1 and Seven) First arriving at the section, we were taken aback to see James Franco lounging in the Seven For All Mankind booth talking about his collaboration with the brand and showcasing his new FW 12-13 campaign he exclusively shot for them, a pretty A-list start to the day! We next chatted to the fascinating and super cool Patrick Mohr about his uber-cool denim brand and then slipped off our shoes to enter the zen-like booth of 45RPM and talk natural wear patterns with Tsutomu Hirano.
Later that day we attended the Temple’s runway show: an indigo catwalk that showcased hundreds of denim garments from many show exhibitors styled up and re-worked with impressive results by stylist Maarten Spruyt. The show explored the theme of religion and was a visual extravaganza of a multitude of religions from around the world from Mexican day of the dead looks and Hasidic Jew inspired styling to Amish frugality and everything in between!
