Barlow was born from designer Molly Girard Coonan’s friendship with her muse, Alice Barlow. As the granddaughter of iconic designer Alexander Girard, Molly was born to design. After graduating from Studio Bercot in France, she was discovered and mentored by contemporary designer Cynthia Vincent. Molly relocated to New York several years later to work for menswear designer Andrew Buckler, where she gained an appreciation for tailoring, hence the tomboy aesthetic of the collection. Like their friendship, Barlow represents the dichotomy between opposites like “tomboy and vixen,” “sex and geometry,” “his and hers,” “avant-garde and traditional.” Alice’s years of experience working as assistant buyer at Ron Herman enhance the collaboration’s well-edited collection of classic sportswear turned upside down. Barlow is now available at Fred Segal, Harvey Nichols Hong Kong and Shopbop.com.
