PRAIRIE HOME COMPANIONS
New York: There was an umbrella Western theme at Band of Outsiders this season that designer Scott Sternberg translated for each of the brand’s three labels. Both of Sternberg’s women’s collections, the more feminine “Girl” and the menswear-inspired “Boy,” were strong, with romantic prairie wear characterizing the former, and looks for the latter ranging from pajama-like printed silk separates to seductive tuxedo-inspired gowns. Ensembles that crossed soft and strong were appealing, such as a few in which tailored floor-grazing coats were styled over fluid under layers. Masculine balanced feminine, and the show’s white opening was balanced by an all-black finale. Ditsy florals, critter prints, paisleys and plaids decorated throughout. —Whitney Kessler
