BOY MEETS GIRL
New York: This season, the tomboys of Scott Sternberg’s Boy by Band of Outsiders line were introduced to the wide-eyed, rosy-cheeked dolls of a new line appropriately titled Girl. A collection of gauzy white frocks, ranging from Grecian-inspired minis to country club-style shirtdresses, formed the core of Girl. A few offbeat touches, however, linked the new line to Boy’s brand of quirk: faded florals gave dresses a vintage “dirty” quality, tailored ensembles were detailed with skewed seams, and sheer loose-fitting babydolls and matched sets had the look of pajamas. In return, Boy borrowed a little bit from the girls in the form of floral camouflage prints and luxe updates on tennis tees. In place of white dresses, Boy’s gamines donned cargos of every variety, from Crayola-colored shorts to pajama-like drawstring pants. Matching jackets, Eddie Bauer-esque plaid button-ups and chic rugby sweaters brought Sternberg’s signature preppy polish to the laidback, deliberately disheveled duds.
