Borrowed Bags

Bags as a classification continue to grow for most retailers, and with more men on the go, unexpected collaborations make the market even more exciting. For F/W 11, Kris Van Assche has teamed up with EASTPAK for a collection of seven bags that encompass the same urban coolness of the designer’s clothes. The sling bags reflect Van Assche’s trademarks: flexible fabric, internal structure and clean lines. Every bag has a metal key ring made out of two pieces that interlock, each representing the names of the two respective brands.

In addition to EASTPAK, Dr. Martens has gotten into the bag game with a new assortment of styles that resemble the rugged aesthetic of their signature boots. The satchel comes in five standard colors, all created by a small team of specialists in London who have years of experience in crafting leather goods. The same material used on their footwear is found on the bags, which are limited to only 350 pieces worldwide. The parachute bags are over-the-shoulder messengers that incorporate industrial-strength materials — rot-proof, water-resistant canvas — and fittings originally used for parachute harnesses.
