New York…Marc Jacobs
Looking into the future always requires reflecting on the past. For his anticipated F/W 09 collection, Jacobs took a glance back at the 1980’s and the club kid era for inspiration. “I was thinking about the good old days in New York,” he said after the show, “when getting dressed up was such a joy.” Each look had its own individual expression. Hairstyles like Mohawks and bouffants were inspired by the album cover of Duran Duran’s Rio and bright pieces were paired in off-beat color combinations. Charcoal grey sweaters retained the emphatic shoulders reminiscent of the era and coordinated perfectly with black hosiery and either yellow or gold accents. Traditional rules of the color wheel were broken with hues of pink and red clashing together on oversized shapes—a possible Grace Jones reference, anyone? From metallic leather party dresses to the velvet bustier tops, all of these cool kids would have fit right in at the Palladium.
