Billy Reid

ROMANTIC THROWBACK
New York: Full of double-breasted jackets and wide-legged silhouettes, Billy Reid’s S/S 13 collection felt nostalgic for past eras — most notably the 20s and 50s. Gentlemanly shapes were relaxed by airy fabrics, and many ensembles incorporated jaunty ascots and easy sandals. There were both sophisticated and naive elements: a pair of salt-and-pepper crosshatch hand-tailored trousers would have suited Mad Men‘s Don Draper, while Draper’s son Bobby might prefer one of Reid’s snug striped polo sweaters or shawl-collared bomber jackets — fresh in lambskin or linen. A rustic, apricot-tinged palette of warm neutrals infused looks with Reid’s trademark southern spirit. —Whitney Kessler
