The Billabong Pipe Masters is one of the year’s most anticipated surf competitions and needless to say it draws a stylish crowd of global attendees. WGSN’s Sam Aldenton reports.
The Billabong Pipe Masters is one of the year’s most anticipated surf competitions where the world’s best male surfers compete on Oahu’s North Shore for the competition’s title and also the WSL’s Championship Tour World Title.
Needless to say it draws a huge crowd of locals and fans that have travelled from across the globe to see the event, making for an eclectic and laid back mix of styles.
I was lucky enough to spend a bit of time before and after the competition of the island’s North Shore soaking up the rays as well as the great street style over the last few days of competition.
Normally I cover the digital and marketing beat for WGSN but was super stoked to get a chance at throwing myself back into the shooting and scouting I used to do more of when I worked on our womenswear and youth teams.
Here are some of the very cool girls I got to meet over the final few days with a strong mix of local Hawaiian, Australian and Brazilians making up the lion’s share of the best dressed. Crochet halter tops, felt Panama hats and vivid multi-coloured prints and textures on accessories were the most forward looking trends spotted on the girls.
