Beyoncé cuts her hair, sets pixie-cut trend

If there’s anyone who knows how to make an ironic trend go viral, it’s Beyoncé (read: H&M’s SS13 campaign and Mrs. Carter’s belly-button ring).

The 17-time Grammy Award winning singer did just that on Wednesday night when she posted Instagram images of her new pixie cut.

Cue global reactions.

Both happy and gut-wrenched fans have been filling her Instagram comments section with yays (@love_manni “… Short hair definitely making a comeback …”) and passionate nays (@mfrixione76 “Huge mistake! Thank God she wears wigs!!”)

Whether her new cropped pixie cut is permanent or even authentic is still under debate but rumors are already swirling. Could it be the incident where her long lion mane was caught in the propeller of a fan during a concert? Whatever the reason, she’s applauded for taking the beauty plunge.

Contrary to the social media buzz, Beyoncé isn’t the only famous face that’s chopping it all off: Halle Berry is a pixie-cut veteran, Charlize Theron looked gorgeous in a back-flattering Christian Dior dress at the 2013 Academy Awards and a shorn-short platinum pixie-cut and Agyness Deyn made the short cut her signature in campaigns and on the catwalk. Miley Cyrus is making short hair for teens and 20-somethings very cool. We also saw Joe Fresh make this look at staple at its fashion week FW 13 show in Toronto, models in inky pixie cuts trotted down the runway in pieces inspired by Paris in the ‘40s.

So we ask you, dear trendsetters: would you get a pixie cut? Beyoncé did it …
