F/W 12 runway season is over, and it concluded on a high note with exquisite collections from Paris Fashion Week. Below are our picks of the best footwear collections for next season.
Simple and feminine, Chloé footwear selections featured this year’s single sole constructions with soft round toe lasts. The slightly higher vamp evokes a ballerina influence, and is balanced with thick heels and a sleek ankle strap. A pleasant surprise is the return of the “flatform” also seen at the Marni show.
Yves Saint Laurent
Pilati’s last shoes at his last show reflected the polished sensuality he’s brought to the house over the last 5 years. Soft square toe pumps sat atop slight platforms and molded heels that resembled prisms in their three-sided construction. Metallic details were always a part of the design elements and for next fall he proposes ombré duotone skins.
Chanel’s F/W 12 collections brought a sense of wonder with a fantastic setting with giant crystal clusters, that according to some attendees were reminiscent of a Superman 3 movie set. Karl is most certainly the Superman of PFW, and more so when he delivered the rock crystal heels with hybrid asymmetrical uppers and oiled finish. These are my kryptonite!
Miuccia Prada was feeling quite groovy and brought the house down with incredible over the top platform constructions and flared heels. Material mixing was key with foiled metallics, suede and a new painted lizard that looked fabulous in ankle-high booties. A more factual interpretation of the era was a very wearable block heel loafer with kiltie details.
Guesquiére continues in a class all his own for both apparel and footwear categories. Color and material blocking create a futuristic city boot with a Chelsea upper and paneled outstep detail which cover the upper and heel all at once. A mid-heel bootie shows active influences with a neoprene upper, as well as a laced pump with thick white laces and black enamel contrast eyelets. My new year’s resolution was to be more active, so I will start by taking one of each. -Jenn Tello
