BEIJING: Nuoyan Rice Wine Bar

Residing in a 1970s wood house that was formerly the home to Wuyutai – a century-long teahouse brand in China, Nuoyan rice wine bar specialises in craft rice wine made from glutinous rice. The owner of this teahouse-style sake bar is formerly a space designer, and this lineage is evident in his rugged decorations in warm tones that work well with the heritage interiors.  Nuoyan, their own product, is a sweet alcoholic beverage with low alcohol content. The flavours of rose, osmanthus, vanilla, and lavender are a nod to Chinese drinking culture and suit both the sweet-toothed and anyone looking for a quick aperitif accompanied with homemade glutinous rice cakes. The cosy rooftop lounge is a well-kept secret of local celebrities, serving music, heritage and culture in the old alleys of Beijing Hutong for today’s smart urban dwellers. – Maria Mao Cui
