Stylesight’s very own SVP of Trend Analysis, Sharon Graubard, participated in AFINGO.com’s “Behind the Seams” fashion industry forum last Friday at FIT in New York. The inaugural event was created to be a “how-to” for students, designers, writers, retailers and any others looking to gain insight into careers in fashion.
Panels ranged in topic from launching one’s first fashion line to social media marketing to evaluating sustainability initiatives. Ms. Graubard and a slew of other industry heavy-hitters, including designer Steven Alan, Leslie M. Blume of The Huffington Post and Jennifer Mankins, owner and buyer of Bird, came together for a discussion on trend forecasting, the genesis of a trend, and how to best spot newness on the streets and runways. “It was great to hear from other forecasters, as well as innovative retailers and a fashion historian, and get a sense of the different ways we approach our work,” said Graubard. “There were many similarities – and lots of differences – that made for energetic responses among the panelists.”
