Yohji Yamamoto always seems to give us what we want before we even realize we want it. In this case, his F/W 09/10 collection gave us the freedom to take the relaxed and languid feeling of a Sunday morning throughout the entire week, and outside the bedroom. Maybe with so many trials and tribulations as of late, it’s an exhaustion of life’s realities that make us want to wear our pajamas outside the house. Either way, Yamamoto’s appreciation for such passive style came through loud and clear in the form of overcoats with bathrobe details, voluminous shorts/skirts that recall lush bath towels, and satin one-pieces that put us to bed like pajamas. As always, his experimentation with volume and silhouettes came through mostly in the cropped, relaxed pants. A coat constructed from what looked like a black duvet was stunning, and almost a soft armour against the perils of what may come tomorrow.
