Victoria Beckham’s vocabulary for dressing – femininity, and thoughtful glamour

London Fashion Week Catwalks – A/W 19

After show-hopping – and a team debrief – the WGSN Catwalks editors call out the most exciting and directional emerging trends – and we’re reviewing some of our favourite moments, too.

WGSN catwalks director Lizzy Bowring reflects on Victoria Beckham’s thoughtful glamour.

Lately, the seventies seem to provide an ongoing source of inspiration for many designers.

For Fall 2019, Victoria Beckham takes semblances of this era and folds and twists them into her beautiful narrative of clothes. There was a studious air about this collection, take a pencil skirt and pair it with a fuzzy argyle sweater and a pointed collar white shirt, add that Beckham dose of sexiness and there you have it, an outfit for all occasions.

Curve-hugging dresses were cut in sensuous silk and wool. A chain print curled across sweaters and dresses and felt a little of the era – it was fresh and minimal as was the colour palette of turquoise, purple and lilac grounded against the season’s camel, red and ubiquitous black.

There was plenty of texture too, seen in the wool, tweeds and silk that worked well in sensuous feminine combinations . As for her accessories, just as sensuous, boots were high-heeled, to the knee or thigh, closed or open toed. This collection was all about the VB woman – her go-to modern take on thoughtful glamour – modern femininity at its finest.
