Katy Perry’s hair stole the show at the VMA’s last night with its classic 40s glamour but edgy cotton candy, lavender-pink color. It’s a great look for shorter lengths, adding volume and shape. Frederic Fekkai stylist Renato was inspired to create a modern take on a 1940s Hollywood look after seeing Perry’s red carpet outfit. We’re calling the look Pop Asian.
How to get the look:
First, Renato created a side part to wet hair. Fekkai Full Volume Mousse was applied throughout the hair and then blow-dried using a round brush. Once the hair was completely dry, he used a 1/2 inch curling iron to add shape. Curls were set for 15 minutes and then brushed through. Fekkai Sheer Hold Hairspray secured the look with a lasting finish and shine. For the final touch, Renato took a one-inch strand of hair and pinned it back with a vintage hairpiece, securing it with a bobby pin. (All products available at Fekkai.com.)

As she accepted her Video of the Year award for Firework we also noticed her customized Minx nails. Each nail showed a tiny personalized image of a record at the nail bed, symbolizing each of the five hit singles from her “Teenage Dream” album. Los Angeles celebrity nail stylist Kimmie Kyees designed the custom Minx, using a black and white-checkered background to contrast with the blue and pink-labeled records that had “Katy” and “Perry” written on them in script.
