Beauty: Fashion Designers Collaborate with Nail Polish Brands

Designer and nail brand collaborations were the buzz at S/S 11 New York Fashion Week. In a tough economy, nail colors are an easy, quick way to experiment with style.

“Nail polish and nail style is an affordable luxury accessory,” says Jan Arnold, co-founder of CND. “It’s one of the few accessories not previously branded by designers.” CND & Jason Wu kicked off Fashion Week with news of a collaboration featuring five timeless shades that will go on sale in Spring 2011. The hero product is Miss Wu, a limestone-gray shade that the designer refers to as his signature color. In addition,Victoria Beckham and Butter London recently announced that they have an exclusive nail color for Spring in the works. While organically-sourced nail polish line Priti NYC created a 1960s inspired pale mauve Mushroom Flower for the Elise Overland show that will also be available come spring and the brand’s bronze-silver shade mixed for the Bill Blass show will launch online in just a few weeks. Sally Hansen collaborated with Tracy Reese for the tenth consecutive season and worked on its first collection with designer Prabal Gurung. Both limited edition collections will be available in the spring.
