For holiday 2011, Shu Uemura came together with renowned film director Wong Kar Wai to create Rouge et Blue, an emotional, atmospheric makeup collection infused with his signature nostalgic cool. At first glance, it’s an unusual partnership, but with some thought, it becomes extremely intriguing as Wong Kar Wai is known for his lush, visually poetic films like “Chunking Express”, “In The Mood For Love”, “Happy Together” and “2046”.
Rouge et Blue is an intense play or red and blue, inspired by poet Charles Bukowski’s Burning in Water, Drowning in Flame. It features two eye and cheek palettes, false lashes, three lipsticks, two nail polish sets, cosmetics pouch, a mini brush set and Shu Uemura’s signature cleansing oil in limited edition packaging. The eye and cheek palettes come with holographic packaging that show open or closed eyes depending on the angle. Wong also directed an exclusive short film “Mask” for the collection. The press release describes it as “a fantasia rich with emotions. “Mask” is a dance between the extreme heat of passion and a sea of calm, climaxing in a glittering shower of healing beauty for the collection.”
