Nowness.com can always be counted on for interesting reads and today’s post features KT Auleta’s beauty film “Rainbow Warrior: Delfine Bafort”. Auleta was inspired by the tropical prints in the Givenchy S/S 12 menswear collection and wanted makeup looks to reflect the changing light throughout the day – hazy morning sunshine, hyper-real colors at noon, and a fade-to-black as night falls.
NARS makeup artist Francelle Daly transformed model Delfine Bafort with multicolored NARS eyeshadow pigments mixed with Aztec Secret Indian Healing Clay. For the night look, she applied Shiseido Black Mask and Clay all over the body, a clay and red pigment mixture on the hair and NARS Black Moon eyeliner all over the eyes. Daly looked to Phyllis Galembo’s Maske (a book on African and Caribbean carnival costumes) and artists Mark Rothko’s and Jackson Pollock’s color blocking and dynamic brush strokes for inspiration. The tropical body paint reminds us a bit of tattoo artist Amanda Wachob’s painterly tattoos.
