New York: The Constructivist and fetishwear influences that have colored BCBG’s collections in recent years floated effortlessly into Grunge for Fall, on the wings of diaphanous silk fabrics and relaxed silhouettes borrowed from Middle Eastern dress. Like much of modern civilization, it all began in Istanbul for the design team of Max and Lubov Azria. The historic meeting point between East and West resulted in a collage of global references: South Asian tunics and henna prints, window-paned panels reminiscent of Roman architecture and organic flora with a whiff of the Pacific Islands. However, the outsized proportions and languid styling exuded a carefree attitude that was decidedly New York, yet one that has found global appeal.—Nivara Xaykao
