BCBG Max Azria

New York: One look at the combination of revealing laces, leather harnesses and a grayscale palette would lead one to believe that a certain best-selling erotic novel was at the forefront of Max and Lubov Azria’s minds when designing their spring collection for BCBG. Aiming for, perhaps, the more cerebral, the duo name-checked Helmut Newton and his fetish-y black-and-white photographs as the inspiration. While many of the themes scattered throughout the collection have been a common refrain the past few seasons, the designers injected some freshness in the craft of the pieces, mixing digital technology (lacy trompe l’œil prints) with traditional materials and intricate construction techniques to capture an intriguing portrait of innocence and subversion.—Nivara Xaykao
