The latest boutique hotel to hit Barcelona is Hotel Brummel, located in an 1870s building in Poble-Sec. The interior design is by Aussie-born, Barcelona-based design duo Blankslate, featuring clear influences from their travels around Sri Lanka. Offering 20 rooms and two apartments, and a selection of mountain, cityscape and Mediterranean views as well as the work of local artists inside, the hotel makes for an inspirational stay. Guests can admire objects from Sri Lanka mixed with European antiques and bespoke contemporary pieces from local artisans, as well as enjoy the hotel’s shared areas such as The Box Station, a dining centre run by chef Damien Bolger with experimental dishes inspired by his travels. –Emily Cater
