BARCELONA: Gatsby Restaurant
By Emily Cater

The decor is beautiful, the food is sublime and the entertainment ridiculously good fun. If you’re in Barcelona, you’ve got to visit Gatsby, says WGSN City By City Associate Editor Emily Cater…

When you’re in a city with as many incredible restaurants as Barcelona, choosing where to eat can be impossible. Let us give you a little steer with this Art Deco-style gem…

City: Barcelona

Where: Gatsby Restaurant, Carrer Tuset, 19-21 08006 / 34 93 7004453

What: Eat & Drink

Three reasons we loved it…

The décor: Unabashedly ostentatious, Gatsby Barcelona is (unsurprisingly) inspired by the classic novel by F. Scott Fitzgerald, and centres around a more contemporary – but equally as luxe – version of the era’s Art Deco style. The club, designed by Alexis Cogul of Danda Studio, features an open plan space, with different zones including a bar, dining areas and a raised stage area for entertainment, as well as a central dance floor, with light features and furnishings featuring gold, white, and teal tones. Geometric floor tiles work well with oversized chandeliers, plush quilted seating and large gold mirrors making for a unique and impressive space. The cool location makes this an insider’s favourite too, hidden in a small, unassuming shopping centre on Carrer Tusset, yet a stone’s through from one of the city’s best nightlife haunts including Bling Bling, Sutton and Ajoblanco.

The food: The food at Gatsby is particularly good, created by renowned international chef Federico Schatz Encina. It features delicious experimental dishes with a few notable international options reflecting the chef’s travels, but seasonal produce is at the core of the menu. Our favourite? The confit of duck with fresh, seasonal vegetables followed by Tiramisu. Also, hurrah for the prices, which at £20-25 per head, are happily affordable.

The menu at the Gatsby sounds too good to be true (but thankfully it isn't)

The entertainment: Cheesy? Yes. But lively and entertaining? Well, yes – that too. We have to admit the Gatsby-style police chase and dance routine had us in stitches, while other cabaret and jazz acts are more roaring 1920s chic. Overall, this gives the venue more of a relaxed, yet fun-loving atmosphere. Perfect for an informal dinner with friends or colleagues.

Is entertainment at the Gatsby cheesy? Yes - but it's also super fun
