Paris: Barbara Bui tapped into a number of major trends for S/S 11, like shades of camel, cropped motorcycle jackets and printed shorts. Her concept seemed to touch on far-flung references, from the desert to sports to military, but successful pieces emerged from the fray. Pieced leather jackets in experimental cuts, canvas minis with a mosaic of shiny plastic embellishments, and draped silk pocket tanks all stood out as wearable items. The desert may have also inspired the Morrocan-ish embroideries embellishing buttonless, ornamental jackets, another key item. Jumpsuits, both active-inspired versions and office-ready silk styles, were an interesting take on all-in-one dressing, and Bui’s limited palette managed to keep these disparate ideas together.
