I am always looking for the vintage reference in every modern piece of clothing I see. However, for those who would take the most modern fashion over an older garment, historical references in progressive designer collections are often lost. Nicholas Ghesquiere is no stranger to vintage inspirations. His praiseworthy fall/winter 2009 collection has its roots deep in fashion history. The signature look and silhouette is very reminiscent of an early 1980s couture dress by Pino Lancetti. Lancetti was an exclusive and artful Italian couturier, and while his clientele may have been elite, his work is certainly known by informed designers such as Ghesquiere. While we all know how innovative the major design houses are, even the best designers in the world still love their vintage.
