Skin
While skincare isn’t a common sight backstage, Chai, a personal fan of Dr. Jart+’s BB Cream, specifically requested it to help create a fresh, clean skin effect. While big in the Asian markets, Beauty Balm “BB” Cream is just hitting the West. It’s an all-in-one skincare regimen that moisturizes, protects and corrects skin and comes in one universal tone that matches most skintones.

Makeup
Kalidardos was inspired by Chai’s use of color in this collection. He translated that into bright, opaque color washes on the eyelids (in orange or pink) or the lips (blue or purple). “I was thinking of Venice Beach American girl meets Harajuku girl. Like Harajuku girl goes to the beach.” To keep the focus on the one color, the rest of the face was kept minimal with simple foundation.

For Spring, Kaliardos is in the mood for color. “It’s a great way to boost not only your spirit but your energy. Color is a very giving thing. When you wear black all the time, it really sucks your energy, and color gives it back.” He recommends lipstick as a quick way to brighten the face, the look and the mood. While blue may be a bit extreme, a bright purple, fuschia or coral is an easy way to try this look.

Hair
This season, Chai’s inspiration was a mashup of textures. While his last two seasons were very monochromatic in feeling and color, there was an explosion of color and texture in this collection. Lead stylist Shorter reflected this in the hair with “bedhead-y, day two hair” on top and a super sleek, low ponytail. She started with Avon’s 3D Rescue treatment then applied a Volumizing Spray Gel to the top and gave it a rough blow dry, scrunching with fingers. Hair was secured in a loose, low ponytail with a bungee cord and held with hairspray. Little pieces were pulled out for piece-y texture and rubbed with balloon for a bit of static.

Minimum work was done on the male models. Chai liked how they looked for casting so hair was kept natural.

Products: Avon 3D Rescue, Volumizing Spray Gel, Medium Hold Hairspray
