A tip from manicurist extraordinaire Angi Wingle, backstage at Karen Walker.
“Don’t get a water manicure. Just like how your hair absorbs water, the natural nail expands. After 60 seconds, the nail expands and it’s full of water. And then you get your nails polished and the polish peels off in 12 hours, because the nail is contracting back, but the polish isn’t going to contract. It’s better to get an oil manicure, and just clean the nail before. Or you can use acetone at home. Clean the oil off, and then file. It’s okay if the oil is in the lower layers of the nails. So no water manicures!”
