Backstage Beauty: make-up artist Attracta Courtney created a fresh modern 60s look at Orla Kiely.

Our beauty editor, Theresa Yee, went backstage at Orla Kiely to speak to make-up artist Attracta Courtney about the look she created for the spring/summer 2015 show.

This season the Orla Kiely spring/summer 2015 collection was inspired by the films Le Bonheur by Agnes Varda and Daisies by Vera Chytilova. Using this as the starting point for the make-up look, Courtney created a 60’s inspired look with twiggy style lashes, soft chocolate brown eyes and a chalky matte apricot pink lip. She described the look as a “fresh take on a 60’s look captured under a soft focus Instagram lens, and a hint of rebellion with mascara on the lashes.”

Courtney used a combination of Bourjois products to achieve the look, starting with Healthy Mix Serum and Java Powder on the face to create a semi-matte skin. The eyes were highlighted with new Quad Eyeshadow Palette in Over Rose, with the soft rose shade applied onto the eyelids and the dark brown colour used on the upper lash line and on the socket to give a smoky effect. The upper and lower lashes were defined with two to three coats of new Volume Glamour Push Up Mascara in Black for a false-lash effect. To finish the look, Color Boost in Peach on the Beach was pressed onto the lips and powdered for a matte finish, while cheeks were contoured using Cream Blush in #01 Nude Velvet.

Over at nails, Marina Sandoval using Bourjois created a “shiny nude nail” using So Laque Ultra Shine Nail Enamel in Rose Lounge. Sandoval applied two thick coats of the nude lacquer and one coat of clear 1 Seconde Nail Enamel on the fingertips for a super glossy finish.
