“The inspiration for the show is 1930’s and art deco. The clothes are very elegant so we’re doing real, beautiful skin with natural lips and then a very strong, graphic, dark eye and that’s what makes it cool and modern. We’re using MAC Black Track Eyeliner and Feline Pencil on the inside of the eye. We did brushed up brows, no mascara, a bit of lip balm on the lips and a little bit of contour and highlighter on the cheeks. It’s all about the dimension and the graphic of the eye, where you put the space, if you’re looking straight ahead the space is at the center of your eyeball. We stop the liner from bleeding with a mixing medium. So I do my eyeliner and on top, I take a brush and draw a thin line of the mixing medium to stop it from bleeding. For real life I would use a pencil and make the shape a lot smaller, then use a finger or blending tool and blend the line out to get a wash of color and a bit of a line. Then use mascara to make it sexy and pretty.
I think for fall we’re going to see a lot of eye detail, there are a lot of dramatic eyes, which is unusual for New York Fashion Week. I think we’re going to see a lot of greens, midnight blues, purples, and browns, looks that aren’t just black.” – Val Garland for MAC
“We are doing very sleek hair with a side part that we put in a ponytail and then we put a black suede ribbon around the ponytail to create a knot. We’re using the Kerastase Elixir Ultime and the Double Force finishing spray.” – Odile Gilbert for Kérastase
“We’re doing two colors, one on the hand and one on the foot. For the hand we’re doing a color called “Over the Top”, which is an icy grey. Monique picked this herself because it goes well with the embellishment on the dresses. We’re only doing one coat because it stays more of an icy grey versus the granite color you get with two coats. On the feet we’re doing a special color as well because her shoes are the highlight of the collection, very sexy with the toes showing. She wanted to do a deep color but not red and not black, something in between that still gave it an edge and drama but with an elegance. So the color we chose is called “Stylenomics”, it has a base of hunter green, which is accentuated when it’s next to green and when it’s not, the black shows through more.
For nails in fall we’re going to see a lot of color which is exciting because we’re coming out of the very light and pale spring look. We’ll see anything from blues to greens to purples. You can do a lot with your nails now and we’re still seeing nail art on the runways, which is really fun.” – Michelle Saunders for Essie
