Look: Festival Barbie
Makeup: Charlotte Tilbury for MAC
Hair: Danilo for Pantene
Nails: Pattie Yankee for Dashing Diva
While the inspiration started with Barbie, the end look evolved into a sportier, younger, cooler version, a bit “smudged, sexy and lived-in, like girls who go to [music] festivals.” Tilbury highlighted cheekbones and blended three cream blushes for a flush on the cheeks. Chocolate brown eyeliner was lined inside of the eyes and black eyeliner lined the top lash line while chocolate brown cream was smudged underneath the eyes. Eyelashes were curled with lots of mascara on top and bottom. A bit of 8-Hour Cream was mixed with eyegloss for a glossy lid and lips got a muted flesh color.

Designers Carly Cushnie and Michelle Ochs knew exactly what they wanted for hair, and a pared-back modernity and clarity come together in the look created by Danilo. He spoke about appreciating the fact that small can be big, that an “image that is very pure can have great drama.”
He first straightened hair, applied Aqua Light (international product) and let the hair down. A spray gel was blow dried into hair for volume and lift then an anti-frizz cream and smoothing cream was applied before flat-ironing hair to stick straight. Last, gel was spread onto hair that was swept up to create direction. Once the gel dried, it was brushed out so only the effect and drama of the product remained.
While giving us the down-low, he also mentioned that he’s been busy at work creating the hair look for the Rooney Mara, lead actress in David Fincher’s movie Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

Nails went “Barbie mannequin” to go with the Barbie-like clothing. To match each model’s skin tone, Yankee mixed Dashing Diva’s Mr. Right nail polish with mineral makeup to create 8 different flesh tones. She started the process by matching the polishes to airbrush makeup colors, then tested on hands and adjusted accordingly. To accentuate the mannequin effect, long stiletto nails were created with extensions painted with two coats of polish and no top coat for a natural matte finish.
