The Look: 50s-inspired Pretty Lady
Makeup: Philippe Chansel for MAC
Hair: Rolando Beauchamp for Bumble & Bumble
Nails: Wanda Ruiz for CND
Philippe Chansel was inspired by a dress with opals to do an opal eyelid. Green, blue and red Reflects (fine glitters) were mixed together on the eyelid to create subtle reflections of color, just like a real opal. Everything else was kept simple with a “peaches and cream” complexion and MAC Tender Tones on the lips to subtly heighten natural lip color. “The dresses were so beautiful that the makeup needed to balance the look without going retro or even looking slightly vintage-y. You get flashes of the eyelid so it really dresses up the look because the dresses are so dressy and everything else is just modern and beautiful.”

Hair was kept simple with small chignons in the back of the neck with messy, dry texture around the hairline. Bumble & Bumble’s Surf Spray was spritzed onto dry hair for a rough texture, brushed with fingers and tied into a tight knot. “Alexandre pulled from the 1940s, 50s and 60s and when I looked at the clothing I immediately thought about Grace Kelly. But Grace Kelly’s hair is too done. So it’s like a woman of that era who didn’t have time to go to a hairdresser and pulled it back into a knot and went out the door in a great dress. It’s not so much about the hair as it’s about a pretty young woman,” explained Beauchamp.

The elegant lady from the 40s and 50s inspiration led to a pretty, sparkly nail look that matched the iridescent eye. “We played off the soft and silky pink undertones and the sparkly layer of the clothing with very pretty, fairy-like nails. We’re calling it the Sugar Babe manicure,” said Ruiz. They applied a top coat to short, rounded, white tips and sprinkled some fine white glitter on top. Another strip was drawn down the center with top coat and sprinkled with some more white glitter. “It’s like sugarplum fairies on holiday, like a fairy dust of white winter on the nails.” Why the extra line down the center? It’s elongating and luminous to catch your eye.
