Sixties silhouettes and a dose of sugary pastels at Prada

Milan: Miuccia Prada has everyone ‘thinking’ what was Miuccia ‘thinking when she designed her latest collection: “I was thinking what women like: colours, bows, decorations,” Prada said backstage. But it was more than that. Her Autumn/Winter collection was like no other and a complete contrast to her previous presentation. She took retro silhouettes from the sixties and fused her own version of prettiness into these simple shapes that were seamlessly constructed in a technical jersey bearing the appearance of neoprene – unforgiving to folds and tucks but perfect for molding perfectly fitted little jackets, cropped flared trousers and sweet empire line frocks. The little coats in oversized herringbone shared a lady like aura with these beautiful high-waisted dresses. The colours were a perfect partner in shades of blue, pink, orange, blue, grey and lime seen in the little handbags, shoes, gloves and the trims – bows, plastic floral brooches, leather and beaded embroidered flowers. It was this decorative element along with the sweet ladurée pastels that sealed the collection as an iconic lineup for the future. – Lizzy Bowring
