Stylesight’s graphic team were inspired by an underground bike poster art show last weekend in the heart of London’s East End. A fresh collective of talented local artists came together to display their art to a crowd of cool bike and art enthusiasts.
ARTCRANK founder Charles Youel started the show in 2007 as a way to combine the two ruling passions in his life: bicycles and great design. “Everyone has a bike story, even if it’s just a faint memory of what it felt like to take off the training wheels and ride free for the first time. From the beginning, ARTCRANK has been a way for talented artists and designers to turn their love for bikes into original art that anyone can afford to take home.”
According to Youel, London and gallery Look Mum No Hands have proven to be an ideal setting for the show. “In the days before the show opened, we were spending a lot of time at Look Mum No Hands, rigging the display cables, sorting out the posters and putting work on the wall. And every time we looked outside, we’d see another group of bikers riding by. People on their way to work, people out for a spin on Boris Bikes. In the mornings, the bikes outnumbered the cars. It was inspiring.”
Artists at the show included: Adam Dedman, BAND, Benaiah Matheson, Chris Thornley, Cowburned, Daniel Mackie, Graham Pilling , Huvi Design Studio , Jonathan Hall, Laura-Kate Chapman, Lee Hasler, Martin Tomsky, Matt Giordano-Bibby, Matt Joyce, Matt Oxborrow, Matthew Slaymaker , Matthew Taylor, Ollie Munden, Ollie Shaw, Peter Carleton, Peter Locke, Pista Collective, Rebecca Cleal, Somhairle MacDonald, Stone and Spear, Susie Lowe, The Ride Journal, The Tree House Press, Vicky Scott, Waste, Workshop.
