We ran across this highbrow Volkswagen advertisement that is obviously inspired by the geniuses that were Dali & Magritte. With recent zeitgeist moments pointing towards a surge in all things surreal (hello Marc Jacobs), it’s no surprise.
This campaign is a bit more bleak than recent ads, but eye opening nonetheless. Gas station attendants lead empty, headless lives while (in the Dalí version) pumpmen cry glass tears into a desert pond. See the nightmarish dreamscape that fuel efficiency has created! SUV ads always seemed to resemble preachy sitcoms, so VW is going the opposite way, creating a world with no cars, people, or even buildings. The images say everything.
